Comfort is also limited. Jelly sandals trap heat, rarely break in and offer little support beyond short, casual wear.

These constraints are manageable at low price points. They are far less defensible when paired with luxury pricing.

Premium positioning implies durability, comfort and lifespan. Jelly sandals do not meaningfully deliver on any of these criteria.

Now, in my defense, I own a lot of sweaters from J.Crew and decided this purchase wasn’t radical for me. But, the internet is powerful like that: it can take an overlooked classic and turn it into a viral, must-have uniform in a matter of days.

While I’m not above following a trend, I also believe in the value of personal style. In an age where algorithms make us all want the same sweater or the same brown suede handbag, style becomes less about self-expression and more about groupthink.

When thousands of us are wearing identical outfits, individuality gets drowned out.

Personal style has always been more than what’s “in” at the moment. It’s the quiet language of who you are. For me, its the 15-year old pair of leather boots I’ll never toss, the costume earrings I always reach for, the vintage handbag I scored à la Brocante Saleya in Nice. These are the kind of pieces that make you memorable in a sea of sameness.

The internet has flattened fashion into a uniform, and it’s tempting to let it. A trending piece offers a sense of security: you know it works, you know it’s chic, you know you’ll get approval in the comments section.

But, we all know that trends fade. The rollneck will eventually be replaced by some other Next Big Thing. But the details that make up your personal style — like my vintage handbags or classic riding boots — are what endure. They’re what people remember.

So yes, I bought the sweater. But I’ll wear it my way, because the best trend is still being impossible to copy.

Let’s start this series with French cool-girl brand Sézane. What stood out to me is the abundance of luxurious-looking outerwear in a mix of textures and colors. But don’t worry, there are plenty of their signature fuzzy sweaters and lace blouses.

But speaking of coats, this chocolate suede number is the perfect blend of elevated and casual. It gives a luxury feel without being fussy.

This incredible, monochromatic outfit featuring this knee-length leather skirt is one of my favorites on their site right now.

I loved the Oscar jacket when it came out in houndstooth and I love it even more in the new animal print.

And if we’re wearing the Oscar jacket, we need the wide Julia belt to go on top.

So here are some on-trend picks without the designer price tag.

First up, academia-inspired looks were all over the runways. Think plaid and checkered patterns, pleating and collared tops.

1. This herringbone sweater from Sézane is giving chic college professor - make sure to add a wide belt like they did.

2. Asymmetry and draping are also big this season, and this STAUD sweater checks those boxes.

3. Oversized outerwear is in, and I love the shape of this Tuckernuck jacket.

4. The influx of bohemian and cowboy aesthetics means fringed accessories are everywhere. This Madewell bag is at a terrific price point.

5. And finally, these Reformation sneakers look just like the low top suede styles that luxury brands are putting out.

First up, tailoring is one of the biggest trends, and I like the folded waistband of these Reformation pants..

Then I blink, and I’m manically Googling “square-toe suede boots with fringe” at 2 a.m. So here we are.

Fall 2025 is shaping up to be a season of texture, structure and confident nostalgia. There is plenty to get excited about as we begin to layer up.

Here are the trends you’ll start seeing everywhere:

1. Outerwear is taking the lead, with oversized coats, faux furs and longline puffers making a big impact. Tailoring is also back in the spotlight with sculpted blazers, exaggerated shoulders and cinched waists.

   

My take: I think if you invest in anything this season, it should be an incredible coat or jacket. It makes a statement, and you’ll look current no matter what you’re wearing underneath.

2. Layered, academia-inspired/country chic looks with uniform vibes, collared shirts and plaid or checkered patterns are giving major back-to-school energy (or back to fall wine tasting and pumpkin picking). Think classic Ralph Lauren magazine ads.

   

My take: I love this look because it never truly goes out of style, so don’t be afraid to pick up some preppy pieces you’ll have forever.

3. Color is loud again with pistachio greens, lipstick reds, electric blues and grape purples overshadowing autumn neutrals. Major names like Tom Ford and Saint Laurent led the charge in bold hues.

   

My take: If you’re like me and love the quieter tones of quiet luxury, try colorful tights or scarves before diving into head-to-toe ensembles. And don’t worry, chocolate brown and charcoal grey are still prevalent!

4. Bohemian vibes are in with embroidered jackets, fringe bags, scarf-belts and relaxed maxi skirts.

   

My take: I like this in moderation — you don’t need to look like you’re off to Coachella. Incorporate subtle lace details and sheer fabrics to help you achieve that romantic vibe without going too far.

5. This season is about texture, texture, texture, like faux fur, velvet, mohair, satin and shearling. The key is layering contrasting textures, like pairing soft with structured or shiny with matte.

   

My take: This trend is quietly luxe and oddly satisfying. Textures = emotional support clothes.

6. And finally: Puss in Boots, but make it chic. This fall, footwear is dramatic with pirate styles, slouchy suede, white 70’s heels and square‑toes dominating the shoe department.

   

My take: I’m all for this trend. I love a slouchy boot and happily rocked them back in the Y2K era (where style really peaked…) Slouchy, unstructured bags will be a perfect match for them.

So, What Will I Be Wearing?

Not all of it. Definitely not all at once.

But what I am doing is using these trends as a starting off point with my closet and investing in a few pieces that will compliment what I already have. I look forward to playing with texture, revisiting color and probably indulging in a new pair of suede boots.

Whether you lean minimal or maximal, Fall 2025 is all about balancing contrast. Soft with structured, modern with vintage. Start experimenting with color, texture and structure and you’ll step into the season with style.
